Home Charging Station Safety Guide|3 Lightning Protection Tips + Step-by-Step Self-Checklist

With the global promotion of green and clean energy and the rapid growth of the new energy vehicle industry, electric vehicles have gradually become an essential part of everyday transportation. Alongside this trend, charging infrastructure has developed quickly, and home ev charging stations are entering more and more households. As a key component in the energy supply chain of electric vehicles, the safe use of home ev chargers is not only vital for the stable operation of both vehicles and power systems but also crucial for protecting users and their property.

To help customers who have purchased, or plan to purchase, our charging stations use and install them more safely and efficiently, I will next introduce key points ranging from daily operation guidelines and installation environment requirements to protective measures and maintenance tips — helping everyone gain a more comprehensive understanding of charging safety and ensuring a greener, safer, and more efficient journey.

The charging pile must meet the IP54 protection level (dustproof and waterproof), don't buy anything below this standard. The shell should be strong and undamaged, and the internal parts should not be rusted or loose

1. Installation stage: The foundation safety should be solid

①Select qualified ev charging pile products

The ev charging pile must meet the IP54 protection level (dustproof and waterproof), don’t buy anything below this standard. The shell should be strong and undamaged, and the internal parts should not be rusted or loose

②The location should be ventilated and away from danger

House ev charging station install in a dry and ventilated place, do not be close to the kitchen, bathroom or stack debris/flammable materials (such as cardboard boxes, gasoline). Outdoor decoration should avoid low-lying waterlogged areas.

③A leakage protector must be installed

This is a life-saving device! Once the leakage will automatically trip, it is recommended to choose a model with an operating current ≤ 30mA, and the outlet of the charging meter.

④Professional installation, don’t pull wires privately

Be sure to apply for an independent meter from the power grid, and it is forbidden to pull the wire from the outlet at home! Wiring must be operated by a licensed electrician and the grounding must be reliable (resistance ≤ 4Ω).

2. Daily use: Don’t be careless about the operating specifications

①Check before charging

Look at the gun wire and plug: no cracks, wear, water ingress (especially after rain);

Smell whether there is a burnt smell;

Make sure the vehicle is turned off before inserting the gun.

②Pay attention while charging

Avoid charging in the rain and suspend use during thunderstorms;

After the ev charging gun is plugged in, you will hear the “click” lock sound to be in place;

If you find any abnormalities (smoke, noise, overheating), press the emergency stop button immediately and draw the gun.

③Finish after charging

Turn off the power of the vehicle first and then pull out the gun, and don’t pull it hard when winding the wire. The gun wire is coiled and hung back on the pile to prevent tripping or crushing.

With the global promotion of green and clean energy and the rapid growth of the new energy vehicle industry, electric vehicles have gradually become an essential part of everyday transportation. Alongside this trend, charging infrastructure has developed quickly, and home charging stations are entering more and more households. As a key component in the energy supply chain of electric vehicles, the safe use of home chargers is not only vital for the stable operation of both vehicles and power systems but also crucial for protecting users and their property.

3. Regular maintenance: small problems are dealt with early

①Monthly self-inspection

Focus on checking whether the skin of the gun wire is aging and cracked, whether there are burnt marks on the metal piece of the plug, and whether there are water stains infiltrating the ev charging station. If there is a problem, stop immediately.

②Professional testing every year

Contact the manufacturer or electrician to do insulation resistance test (anti-leakage) and grounding continuity check to ensure that the protection function is normal.

③Keep the environment tidy

Do not pile up debris within 1 meter around the electric car charging station, especially flammable products (such as alcohol and used clothes). Clean the heat sink dust regularly.

4. Special reminder: Don’t step on these pits

Prohibition of private connection of extension cords: The gun line is not long enough? Contact the manufacturer to customize (such as adding from 3 meters to 5 meters), and your own wiring may catch fire.

Don’t charge with a broken gun wire: even if the skin is cracked, you can get an electric shock!

Non-professionals do not maintain: There is high-voltage electricity inside, and random dismantling will cause accidents.

Thats All, I hope this article can help you install and use charging piles safely and efficiently, and I hope that friends who have not purchased our charging pile products can support us.
