The Customer Need

A manufacturing company in Northern Europe wanted to provide convenient DC charging for employees at its facility. Since the charger would be used internally rather than as a public charging service, the priority was a solution that was fast enough for daily employee use, simple to operate and suitable for outdoor installation.

The project therefore called for practical charging performance without unnecessary operational complexity.

The Solution: 40 kW DC Charging for Everyday Employee Use

We supplied one 40 kW wall-mounted DC charging station with a standard 3 m charging cable. The 40 kW output provides practical DC charging for a workplace environment, while the wall-mounted format makes efficient use of the available installation space.

The charger’s minimalist, streamlined design avoids unnecessary components and focuses on straightforward operation and value for money.

Designed for Simple Outdoor Installation

Installed outdoors at the manufacturing facility, the charger needed to withstand rain, dust and changing weather conditions. Its fully waterproof housing makes it adaptable to a wide range of installation locations.

Installation is designed to be straightforward: pre-drilled mounting holes and included expansion bolts simplify the mounting process and help reduce unnecessary installation work.

Simple Password-Access for Internal Employee Charging

Because the charger is intended for the company’s own employees, the customer chose password-based start/stop. This provides a simple and direct charging experience without requiring a more complex public-charging workflow. For an internal workplace charging environment, this approach keeps daily use convenient while providing a practical way to control access.

Simple Today – Connected for Tomorrow

Although password-based operation was the best fit for the customer’s current needs, the charger’s 4G, network, and OCPP connectivity were retained. The customer can therefore keep the current charging experience simple while preserving the option to introduce additional digital and platform-based functions in the future.
  • Today: password-based start/stop for simple employee charging.
  • Built-in: 4G, network, and OCPP connectivity remain available.
  • Tomorrow: potential platform-based management and additional connected functions as requirements evolve.

Creative Problem Solving for User Experience

Upon installation, the client noted that the screen brightness during standby mode was somewhat distracting and requested a screen-off feature. Although this specific model does not support a complete screen shutdown during standby, we provided a highly effective alternative.

We first reassured the client regarding energy efficiency, noting the ultra-low standby power consumption (<30W). To immediately resolve the brightness concern, we guided them to replace the default standby screensaver with a completely solid black image, effectively reducing the standby illumination to a negligible level. The client was extremely satisfied with this prompt and practical workaround.

A Future-Ready Workplace Charging Approach

The project demonstrates a simple principle for workplace EV charging: start with the functions employees actually need today, while keeping the technical flexibility to support tomorrow’s requirements. For companies installing EV chargers for their own workforce, this approach can provide a practical balance between usability, investment and future scalability.
